Challenger Ranji Trophy Cricket

Challenger Trophy Cricket series, a day-night limited-over tournament, is played before the launch of Ranji season, in October. The tournament is organised with the purpose of providing opportunities to talented younger players in the country. Being considered as one of the premium competitions in the Indian domestic cricket arena, the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy has earned a lot of importance and attraction from the cricket enthusiasts. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) started the tournament in the years of 1994-95, with an objective to find cricketers who can represent the country in the coming years. However, the tournament was started in the name of Challenger Series in the beginning and the BCCI named it after the famous cricketer NKP Salve, in the years of 1998-99. Salve was a former official in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and he was hugely instrumental for India hosting the World Cup in 1987.

Structure of RCL T20 Matches in Challenger Trophy
There are only 3 teams in the tournament namely the India Senior, India A and India B and the teams compete with each other, first in a league basis and then go into playing the semi-finals and the final. The teams comprise the best 36 players of the country and it is believed to be the most authentic tournament to produce the best 11 players for the national team. The India Senior team won the first edition of the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy in 1994, and it also won the 4-day tournament, for the next 3 years. The India A and India B teams were declared as joint winners in 1998, after India seniors were ousted from the tournament and the final could not be played due to bad weather.

Format of Ranji Trophy
According to the format of the Ranji Trophy in the initial period, the teams first participated in knockout rounds and then reached a timeless final. The rules stated that in case of draws, the team leading in the first innings was announced as the winner. However, the rules were changed and zonal groups introduced, in 1957-58 after a spate of matches where sides with no chance of winning conceded. According to the changed format, the teams were divided into the 5 zones like North, West, East, Central and South. Teams in zone played each other in the league stage.

The top 2 teams (till 1991-92) and top 3 following them from the zones played each other in the knockout round through which the eventual winner was decided. However, the format was changed in the 2002-03 season, when the elite and the plate divisions came into play. The BCCI changed the names of the elite and plate divisions to 'Super League' and 'Plate League' in the 2006-07 season. Though most of the teams in the tournament represent the different states of India, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Gujarat and Vadodara, have separate teams. However, besides the states, the teams like Railways and Services also participate in the Ranji Trophy.

The very first of the Rajwada Cricket tournaments in India was the Ranji Trophy that was organised in the year 1934-35. The tournament was named after the legendary Indian Cricket player, Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji, Jam Sahib of Nawanagar, and was initiated with a view to bring out top class talented cricketers from different parts of India. The Ranji Trophy is considered to be the premier cricket tournament in India. Most of the participating teams in this tournament mainly represent various Indian states. Apart from the state teams, there are also some other teams that are run and managed by different corporate houses or governmental organisations. Such teams include the Railways and Services etc. The teams are divided into two groups named the Elite Group and Plate Group and there are two different winners for each of the groups. The teams in the Elite Group are considered to be the best ones in the Ranji Trophy.

Player: Official Cricket Rules

Cricket is believed to have begun possibly as early as the 13th century as a game in which country boys bowled at a tree stump or at the hurdle gate into a sheep pen. This gate consisted of two uprights and a crossbar resting on the slotted tops; the crossbar was called a bail and the entire gate a wicket. The fact that the bail could be dislodged when the wicket was struck made this preferable to the stump, which name was later applied to the hurdle uprights. Early manuscripts differ about the size of the wicket, which acquired a third stump in the 1770s, but by 1706 the pitch—the area between the wickets—was 22 yards long.

RCL T20 2017 cricket involves two teams with 11 players on each side. The captain who wins the toss decides whether his team bats or bowls first. If they bat first , their aim is to score a lot of runs and make sure the other team does not reach that score. Three functions of the players are 1. BATSMEN, 2. BOWLING 3. FIELDING.
Batsmen - one who scores runs of the balls bowled by the bowler.
Bowler - One who bowls, and tries to get the batsmen "out" (dismissed from the ground).
Fielder - Players (10) who assist the bowler in achieving his goal, and prevent the batsmen from scoring runs

KCT Winner 2016

Score Runs
The aim of the batsmen is to score runs. One of the main cricket rules is that for batsmen to score runs they must run to each other’s end of the pitch (from one end to the other). In doing this one run is scored. Cricket rules state they may run multiple runs per shot. As well as running they can also score runs by hitting boundaries. A boundary scores the batsmen either 4 or 6 runs. A four is scored by hitting the ball past the boundary after hitting the ground while a six is scored by hitting the ball past the boundary on the full. Kota Chambal Tiger Results cricket rules also state that once a 4 or 6 has been scored any runs physically ran by the batsman are null & void. They will only obtain the 4 or 6 runs.

Player Cricket Rules
  • Cricket is a game played between two teams made up of eleven players each. There is also a reserve player called a “twelfth man” who is used should a player be injured during play.
  • The twelfth man is not allowed to bowl, bat, wicket keep or captain the team. His sole duty is to act as a substitute fielder.
  • The original player is free to return to the game as soon as they have recovered from their injury.
  • To apply the law and make sure the cricket rules are upheld throughout the game there are two umpires in place during games. Umpires are responsible for making decisions and notifying the scorers of these decisions.
  • Two umpires are in place on the playing field while there is also a third umpire off the field who is in charge of decisions.
  • This is where the call is too close for the on field umpires and they refer it to the third umpire who reviews slow motion video replays to make a decision.

The Role of Cricket in the India

The roots of cricket can be traced to 16th century England, the country with which the sport is still most often associated. At the close of the 18th century, cricket had in fact become England’s national sport. With the expansion of the British Empire in the following decades, cricket was introduced to many parts of the world including Australasia, England, India, and Southern Africa. Although cricket was introduced to North America as well, the sport hasn’t enjoyed as much popularity in the United States as it has in other countries. Nevertheless, the United States was one of the teams in the first international cricket match in 1844. The United States team played against Canada, where the sport is considerably more popular. There are three basic forms of cricket, although the fundamentals of the game are quite similar. First-class games are played over a period of four days, although this may be extended to five days in certain cases. Some tour matches may be played over a period of three-days only.

Rajwada Cricket is a very interesting game. It is a very popular sports in India. Indian cricket team is a powerful side in all three major cricket formats, viz. Test cricket (first class cricket),  50 over One-day cricket, and Twenty-20 (limited to 20 overs each) cricket.

Cricket in India is the most popular and most watched sport as compared to all other sports in India. The passion, the craze, the thrill and the excitement that the spectators experience is in-matchable to that of any other sport. Cricket in India is like Football in Brazil or Spain. The enthusiasm and the excitement is above all other things. Cricket in India is everyone’s favorite (still there are few who doesn’t like the hype of the game) and is played by most people. People here in India can talk cricket all the time.

Although the game play and rules are very different, the basic concept of cricket is similar to that of baseball. Teams bat in successive innings and attempt to score runs, while the opposing team fields and attempts to bring an end to the batting team's innings. After each team has batted an equal number of innings (either one or two, depending on conditions chosen before the game), the team with the most runs wins. In cricket, a substitute player can be introduced on for an injured fielder. However, a substitute should not bat, bowl, keep wicket or act as captain. The player who was injured can come back if he has recovered.

  • Each team is made up of 11 players.
  • The bowler must bowl 6 legal deliveries to constitute an over.
  • A game must have two umpires stood at either end of the wicket. The umpires then must count the number of balls in the over, make decisions on whether the batsmen is out after an appeal and also check that the bowler has bowled a legal delivery.
  • A batsmen can be given out by either being bowled ( the ball hitting their stumps), caught (fielder catches the ball without it bouncing), Leg Before Wicket (the ball hits the batsmen’s pads impeding its line into the stumps), stumped (the wicket keeper strikes the stumps with their gloves whilst the batsmen is outside of their crease with ball in hand), hit wicket (the batsmen hits their own wicket).
  • Handled ball ( the batsmen handles the cricket ball on purpose), timed out (the player fails to reach the crease within 30 seconds of the previous batsmen leaving the field), hit ball twice (batsmen hits the cricket ball twice with their bat) and obstruction ( the batsmen purposely prevents the fielder from getting the ball).
  • Test cricket is played over 5 days where each team has two innings (or two chances to bat).
  • The scores are then cumulative and the team with the most runs after each innings is the winner.
  • One Day cricket in played with 50 overs. Each team has 50 overs to bat and bowl before swapping and doing the previous discipline. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins.
